MBABANE – As the Swazi Telecom Charity voting deadline of July 20 gets nigh, surprises can be expected as Manzini Sundowns have declared ‘Don’t rule us out of the top six’.

The ‘Basop I-Kappa Kappa’ ensemble, through its Chairman Mark Carmichael, has thrown a challenge to all the 24 PLS teams eligible to play in the tournament by saying they were always ready to put money into the Charity Cup.

“It has got to be understood that for Sundowns, this is not a tournament but a form of charity which must be in capital letters – this is charity and Manzini Sundowns will always put its money as we know that in turn gives opportunities to the underprivileged who don’t get what we get in life,” Carmichael said when responding to the question of whether they will qualify for the tournament or not.

Speaking from South Africa yesterday, Carmichael said they should not be ruled out as they were well aware of the initiative’s noble benefits to the less privy in life.
“I always preach charity at Sundowns and that everyone must understand we’re not doing this for our own gain but to help those who need our help hence we’ll do all within our capability to give to charity,” he said.

He even joked that at this point in time he could even win a lotto and decide to pump it all into charity as he understands the significance of the initiative and fully backs it as a person and as Sundowns.

Currently, Sundowns are in 12th position with just little over 1 000 votes but they are renowned for pumping as many votes in the last minute if they decide to partake.

They have also won the tournament once including the car for being the top voting team.
After missing it last year as they put most of their money into infrastructure building at the Manzini Club, they look set to bounce back this year which should send an alarm to other expected clubs to make it like Mbabane Highlanders and Mbabane Swallows who are way below the top four teams in votes’ numbers.

Leading is Green Mamba with over 85 000 votes, Young Buffaloes on second with over 70 000, Manzini Wanderers are third with close to 70 000 and Royal Leopard on fourth with close to 30 000 votes.
These are figures published yesterday.

A target of one million votes has to be made by July 20 but there is a high possibility the deadline is extended as the tournament dates have changed due to the unavailability of the Somhlolo National Stadium on the initial dates.
On another note, Sundowns supporters were urged to start throwing in as many votes as possible as the team was all about doing it for charity than their own gain.
