MBABANE – Zimbabwean striker Kudzanayi ‘Vibes’ Matanda is back at red and white glamour giants Mbabane Swallows.

He started preseason training with the heavyweights yesterday and was taken through his paces by caretaker coach Siyabonga Bhembe.
The player is fresh from Dubai where he played his football in off-season. He said yesterday that he was happy to be back with the team after signing in January shortly before Swallows’ Champions League campaign.

The speedy forward will, however, have to fight for his place in an all star studded attacking line spearheaded by new Ghanaian signing Frank Antwi and DR Congo’s Fabrice Mopina. Antwi has already signed on the dotted line, while Mopina is still being assessed by the technical bench.
Interviewed shortly on arrival, Matanda said he was ready to commit himself to the Mbabane giants again.

“I enjoyed playing for the team last season even though it was for a short while. I am back and hopefully to do my best,” he said.
Swallows acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sibusiso Manana downplayed the player’s return yesterday but confirmed to have seen him at training.

Manana said they were expecting all their players back in the team, as pre-season training had already started.
Matanda will be fondly remembered by the Swallows faithful for scoring the stunning opening goal against Zambian side, Nkana FC, in the first of a double-legged Champions League clash, which was played at the Somhlolo National Stadium. The home team won the game 2-0, as lanky midfielder Felix Badenhorst added the second.

Matanda also scored Swallows’ first goal in the return leg in Zambia at the Nkana Stadium during the disastrous 2-5 loss for the visitors at home to the Zambian side. Injuries then played a major role in ensuring that he then played a cameo role for the remainder of the season.
