MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders yesterday put pen to paper with Sierra Leone national team defender Baimba Kamara.

Kamara, who had a short stint with First Division League outfit Mhlambanyatsi Rovers in the recently ended season, signed a pre-contract with the ‘Black Bull’ as Highlanders are also fondly known.
Our sources said the player who is bound to leave the country this morning to join the Sierra Leone squad, affectionately known as the Leone Stars ahead of the second leg AFCON 2015 Qualifier against Sihlangu next weekend, met the club’s Chairman, Bheki ‘Rubber’ Simelane, in the evening yesterday.

“We’ve been talking to him and he also showed interest in joining us. He’s a quality player with good international reputation having played in all junior national squads and now the senior team and the director wants the best players for the elite competition,” said a source close to Simelane.

When the club’s PRO Thulani Khumalo was reached on the matter, he confirmed the issue.
“He had a successful meeting with the Director Mr. Simelane and signed a pre-season contract which binds him to return to the club after the Leone Stars match and head straight to the clubhouse,” he said.
The player approached us with keen interest as he watched them in the First Division and was impressed but noted the club lacked in defence. He said Baimba was a quality defender who had the height they so dearly need.
On the other hand, Rovers’ PRO Sibusiso Bhunu Zwane said he was not aware of the matter but had a hint as their coach Alou Badara had told him on Thursday.

“I know the player was due to meet with Highlanders on Thursday but do not know if that happened. But if you say he signed I’m hoping we’ll know in our meeting as we had thought he was bound for Green Mamba,” he said.
Meanwhile, Baimba and Badara both could not be reached when sought for comment. However, Baimba had hinted a day before the first leg of the AFCON Qualifier as he was with the Leone Stars at the Lugogo Sun hotel, that he would soon be moving to an elite team.
He had said he joined Rovers to keep himself fit having arrived here very late in the January window period.
