MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders are investigating an assault case between two management committee (MC) members that occurred last week.

The ugly incident is said to have unfolded at Tambankulu Stadium during a National First Division League match between the ‘Black Bull’ and Callies.

The names of both officials are known to this publication, but will not be revealed until investigations have been concluded.
The team Marketing Manager Thulani Khumalo disclosed that one official from the team’s Head of Security assaulted another one during a minor misunderstanding at the stadium gate.

The said official is said to have arrived late for the game that was hosted by the sugar-belt side, and at the time Highlanders quota of officials who were allowed free entry had been exhausted.
The official, who is a long serving marshal, is said to have not taken kindly to being told to pay to gain entry into the venue.

He is alleged to have accused his other colleague of having a vendetta against him, hence allegedly assaulting him with a fist.
“The matter was reported to management and we have since summoned both officials to come and explain what transpired on the day before a decision may be taken. The team view such incidents as unfortunate and stern action will be taken to whoever will be found to have transgressed,” he said.

The official confirmed he was assaulted, but said he wanted it to be dealt with internally.
“I was very shocked at what happened on the day, because I was only advising my senior colleague to pay because we had exhausted our quota of officials who gained free entry. We were the guest team on the day, and I expected him to understand. Worse still, he had arrived late at the stadium, and had not bothered to notify anyone that he was coming,” the official said.

The club played to a 2-all draw during the game, and management will meet next week to deliberate the incident.
