MBABANE – South African soccer giants Orlando Pirates have been lined up for an Imbali Foundation fund-raising event during the off-season.
Talks between the two parties are said to be ongoing, a source close to both entities disclosed yesterday.

The foundation, whose Patron is Princess Sikhanyiso, wants to bring the NedBank Cup finalists to the country as part of their fund-raising event. Orlando Pirates Head of Marketing Director Nkosana Khoza told this newspaper that the issue was handled by the club Chairman Irvin Khoza.
“The issue you are talking about was handled by the chairman, he is the one who should confirm,” he said.

Khoza (Irvin) could not be reached for comment last night as he was reportedly chairing a Premier Soccer League (PSL) Executive Committee meeting.

Imbali Foundation’s Makhosonkhe Dlamini confirmed that they have invited the Soweto giants, when called last night, but said it was too early to elaborate on details.
“It is true that we are in talks with Orlando Pirates, but we are still at a primary stage. We can only disclose more details once everything has been finalised,” Dlamini said.

The foundation is the brainchild of the princess who is also a member of the Swaziland National Council (SNC). It was essentially formed to improve the welfare of the country’s young maidens, Imbali.
The Soweto giants have a large following in the country. They last came here in 2006 when they played Mbabane Swallows in the CAF Champions League match at Somhlolo National Stadium.

The team is preparing for the NedBank Cup final showdown with Bidvest Wits at the Moses Mabhida Stadium next Saturday at 3pm. It will be their fourth cup final in the past eight months having featured in the MTN 8, Telkom Cup and CAF Champions League where they lost on aggregate 1-3 to eight-time champions Al Ahly of Egypt.
