NO HARD FEELINGS ABOUT SIHLANGU OMISSION – ‘YUKI’
MBABANE – Former Sihlangu skipper Dennis ‘Yuki’ Masina has no hard feelings about being left out of the team that will face Sierra Leone next weekend.
Sihlangu play the Leone Stars next Sunday at the Somhlolo National Stadium as part of the first round draw for the 2015 AFCON qualifiers. Coach Harris ‘Madze’ Bulunga announced a 24-member squad made up of locally-based players.
There was no place for Yuki and Jomo Cosmos striker Mzwandile ‘Navara’ Ndzimandze.
The Mpumalanga Black Aces attacking midfielder who earned his first Sihlangu cap in April 1999 against Lesotho in the Toyota Challenge Cup, said he was not bitter at being left out of the squad, and urged the selected players to work hard for the country.
“I wish the team the best of luck in the game and I will personally be there to watch the game as a loyal Swazi. They represent the nation and it does not matter who has been selected, but the responsibility is to ensure that we work hard. It is sad to lose but always nice to win and we can only achieve anything as a unit,” Masina said.
The player last week declared his readiness to honour a call-up for the match against Sierra Leone. The player said playing for the national team has always been at the top of his priority. He is alongside Wonder ‘Samba Jive’ Nhleko, a surviving member of the golden generation that reached the semi-finals of the COSAFA Castle Senior Challenge Cup three times in the past decade. Other household names players included; Mxolisi ‘Stopper’ Mthethwa, Sibusiso ‘Spoko’ Dlamini, Bongani ‘Ndezi’ Masangane, Linoh ‘Fresh Prince’ Magagula, Bongiswa ‘Romario’ Nhlabatsi and John ‘Shisa Junior’ Mdluli just to name a few.
Bulunga was contacted over the omission of the South African-based players from the team to face Sierra Leone, but his cellphone was not answered despite several efforts to get him. The last call was made at 6pm.
