MANZINI – An impressive Manzini Sundowns Under-20 side missed a host of chances but still emerged 2-0 victors over RSSC United yesterday.

Sundowns have assumed the summit, dislodging Malanti Chiefs with a point-lead over second-placed Royal Leopard. Malanti are now third with 12 points while Sundowns have 14. The Penuel Malinga-led side showed skill, flair and confidence blended with vast individual talent. They are also good playing as a team – ask RSSC United or Mbabane Swallows.

Scoring for the home side was striker Timiso Nxumalo who finished neatly with a tap-in a searching cross into the box a minute after the recess. After the goal, it was still a one-sided affair as RSSC were always second fiddle and lost the ball easily while seeing less of it. If it was not for ill-luck and good goalkeeping from RSSC’s Siphamandla Matsebula who made at least five daring saves as they were under siege, some football the over 200 Manzini Wanderers and Sundowns supporters who arrived early enjoyed.

It was good football, in the end it was no surprise Sundowns finally got a second at the stroke of full-time through right winger Nhlanhla Nkambule who was brilliant with a volley the goalkeeper knew little about.
In an earlier league game, Manzini Wanderers Under-20s won 4-1 over Manzini Sea Birds, a result that took the Weslians to fourth on the log table with 12 points while the opposition could have done with a win as it would see them at the summit on 15 points.
