DOUBLE PAY FOR ‘MADZE’
MBABANE – The gods of football are certainly smiling on the country’s national team coach Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga as he will be getting a double pay monthly of around E30 000.
Madze, who has been given the Sihlangu Semnikati job full time by the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) recently, is also a high school teacher at Mater Dolorosa in the capital city.
Sources close to the NFAS top brass have alleged that for the Sihlangu job he will be paid a salary of about E20 000 monthly, while teachers in his rank are said to be earning in the region of around E10 000 monthly. However, Madze has said he would not be quitting his teaching job despite being made full-time coach for the country’s senior national team. Worth mentioning is that NFAS Technical Director Boy ‘Bizzah’ Mkhonta also got two cheques monthly, one as a high school teacher and another for the NFAS job, but later quit teaching.
Madze is almost in the same corner but NFAS CEO Frederick Mngomezulu explained the situation.
Mngomezulu confirmed Bulunga has been appointed the national team coach, replacing Valere Billen who was earning E100 000 monthly. The NFAS CEO said the coach was not expected to quit his job as a teacher as he is allowed to do both.
He said football in the country has not yet reached a professional stage but is still at semi-professional level.
“There is nothing wrong with him keeping both jobs because even before he was a full-time assistant to Billen while still working as a teacher,” he said.
Mngomezulu said what they emphasised was that the full-time coach should not be attached to any local team.
The coach refused to comment on the matter. “Please talk to the FA CEO because he can be the one to clarify on this matter,” he asked.
The NFAS executive has also appointed former Mbabane Swallows coach Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe and former Mbabane Highlanders goalkeeper Sipho ‘Shilton’ Dube as assistant coaches, reportedly earning E8 500 per month. Hlophe recently retired from his employment at the Swaziland Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (SPTC) while Dube is still an employee at the Central Transport Administration (CTA).
