MBABANE – The MTN League encounter that was to pit army side Young Buffaloes against Mbabane Swallows on Saturday has been called off.

The keenly anticipated clash between the two was slated for Mayaluka Stadium in Big Bend. The Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) Acting Chairman, Mduduzi ‘Tsotsi’ Mabila announced yesterday during a press briefing held at Sigwaca House that Swallows requested to have the game postponed. Swallows will be hosted by South African football heavyweights Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday at the FNB Stadium.

“After formally receiving Swallows’ request this morning (yesterday) we unanimously took the decision as the executive committee to call off the game between Buffaloes and Swallows. It was the only logical thing to do under the circumstances. Everyone knows that Swallows will now be representing the country in the Africa Cup and they deserve all they can get.

“We took the decision in the absence of the chairman (Victor Gamedze) because of his interest in the matter. Fortunately, we all agreed that this was the best decision. We have already forwarded Swallows’ request to the FA because for a team to go out of the country to play, they need the FA’s approval,” he said.

He disclosed that the office will set the new date of the clash between the two sides.
Swallows acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sibusiso Manana, on the other hand, said they were grateful to the organisation for granting them the request to have the game postponed.

“Such a move should be commended. It is crucial for us to play against big teams like Chiefs, who will also be campaigning in the Champions League. This will go a long way in helping us prepare for the game against Nkana.

“We are really grateful to the PLS for their understanding. We will also try our level best not to disappoint but to do the country proud, not just against Chiefs, but even when we play against Nkana in the Champions League,” he said.
