MBABANE – Giants Manzini Wanderers could be without skipper Lwazi ‘Shana’ Maziya in their crucial clash against Mbabane Swallows tomorrow.

The two sides will renew their rivalry when they cross swords in an eagerly-awaited MTN Premier League encounter at Somhlolo National Stadium at 4pm. Word coming from the maroon and white outfit is that the gifted centre-back is doubtful for the clash due to work commitments. He is expected to leave for Cape Town, South Africa on the day of the match and connect a flight in Johannesburg at 1pm.

The defender who joined Wanderers from Mhlambanyatsi Rovers is attached to the Director of Public Prosecutions’ (DPP) office. Team PRO Mduduzi Ginindza said missing the player could be a huge blow, but assured that they would try their best to at least delay the flight. “We really need the player. We hope we’ll eventually succeed to at least delay the flight to after the match.

He is automatically ruled out of the clash if he eventually leaves Johannesburg at 1pm,” he said. ‘Shana’ remains an influential figure at the side’s defence and is also good at set pieces. His rock solid performance at the back coupled with sound leadership skills earned him the captaincy armband about two seasons ago. He took over the captaincy from then teammate Elias Tsabalaka.

The latter now plays for Mbabane Swallows. Efforts to get comments from the player were fruitless as his phone repeatedly rang unanswered. The last attempt was made at 6:33pm.
Meanwhile, coach Kenny Ndlazi said the club was doing everything to have the player as the aim is to bring a full strength squad against the high riding Mbabane Swallows.

“Management is doing everything to at least delay his flight for him to play the game. But whatever happens, we are ready to go to the match and compete. We understand that we are a work in progress, but we have been boosted by the return of some key players like Xolani ‘Papi’

Sikhondze, Colani Mngometulu and Sanele Chauke from long term injuries,” he said. The match which will be the pick of the weekend in the MTN League pits two teams whose rivalry lately has reached fever heights. The ‘Weslians’ will be eager to end an about two-year winless streak against the Birds who have 16 points in six league matches.
