’Landers’ Vuyani off to Wanderers

MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders seem to be losing players faster than a tree sheds leaves in autumn following the resignation of former skipper Vuyani ‘Masche-rano’ Mazibuko.

The gifted playmaker intends joining Manzini Wanderers in the new season. He submitted his resignation letter to one of the team’s former influential officials, who is, however, yet to forward it to the team.

“It was long coming. A number of issues are forcing the player out of the team. He now feels unwanted and unloved. Can you imagine that he only read about his striping as the team’s captain in the newspapers? There is not one official who bothered to talk to him to find out what has been preventing him from attending the team’s activities.

“How was he supposed to feel? The player feels he sacrificed a lot for the team to then be treated like dirt. He has made up his mind and wants to leave,” a source close to the player said yesterday.
Mazibuko could, however, not be reached for comment at the time of going to press yesterday, as each time he was called, his mobile phone was answered by someone, who claimed the player had left his phone behind.

Highlanders PRO, David Litchfield said he only considered Mazibuko’s resignation to be a rumour.
“Officially, nothing has reached the team. I have only heard about what you are asking me about on the streets, which I cannot, therefore, comment on.
“As a team, we have decided to engage all the players who have failed to avail themselves for training to try and find out what their problems could be. Our plan is to ask them to tell us of their plans. We will obviously negotiate with interested teams for those players who have contracts with us. We will, however, issue clearances to players who are no longer contracted to us, as it is our policy not to frustrate players,” he said.
