MBABANE – Young Buffaloes coach Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati is confident of winning a seat as a Member of Parliament (MP).

The former National team, Sihlangu coach was nominated yesterday under the Mbabane West Inkhundla. Vilakati was nominated at the Mbabane Central High School. He said he was ready to go to Parliament.

His nomination, alongside the likes of Moneni Pirates director Christopher ‘Tototo’ Khoza, Umbelebele Cosmos current PRO Mfanasibili ‘Bibi’ Mazibuko, the club’s former PRO Nchubeko Mango and former Moneni Pirates striker Sanele Gina has taken the number of sports personalities who will be contesting for a seat in the next parliament to close to 20.

He said even though it was still early, if the people showed confidence in him, he would use the opportunity to make his way in. Vilakati said he was also nominated in 2008 when the last elections were held but he did not make it.

“I’m a Swazi and I have my own constituency. I cannot go against the people’s wishes.  I was nominated by them and if they continue to support me all the way, then I will take my chances. The elections are open to all Swazis,” he said.

Vilakati will be leading Young Buffaloes to the semi-finals of the Swazi Telecom Charity Cup on Sunday where they play Mbabane Swallows. If they win the game they will play the winner between Royal Leopard and Green Mamba in the final. The former Mbabane Highlanders and Manzini Wanderers coach joins other sport officials who were nominated in different constituencies around the country. They include Swaziland National Sports Council (SNSC) Vice Chairman Sikhatsi Dlamini, Umbelebele Jomo Cosmos PRO Mfanasibili ‘Bibi’ Mazibuko, and former Umbelebele PRO Nchubeko Mango.

The trio was nominated under the Mbabane East Inkhundla. Others are former Moneni Pirates goalkeeper and now the club director Christopher ‘Tototo’ Khoza who was nominated at Manzini North.
The Moneni Buccaneers’ director was shocked when his name was called during the elections nominations held at Moneni yesterday.

The former striker (48) said he was not sure of his stand on the elections as he was part of the elections process because he had come to nominate his friend, Mfundo Zwane, who is a brother to former Border Restoration Committee (BRC) Member, Sandlane Zwane. Khoza was nominated and over 20 supported his nomination as they screamed and said they wanted him to score a seat in Parliament.
