MBABANE – The world football governing mother body FIFA may have no say in the 16-team league saga after all.

This follows the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) Executive meeting on Thursday where it transpired that the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) was not prepared to take the matter up with FIFA.

“The PLS has done nothing pertaining writing to FIFA raising their reasons for arguing the 16-team league decision was unconstitutional.”
From the meeting, it became clear they were not ready to do so but insisted on their argument,” said a source on condition of anonymity.

The source said some consultations were to be made ahead of the next Thursday’s meeting whereby this issue and others including that of Sihlangu coach are finalised. “It is a matter that has to be resolved soon as the league season start is also approaching,” said the source.
The FA had advised the PLS to forward their grievances to FIFA and by last Thursday they would be discussing that FIFA directive but nothing was done towards that.

NFAS Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Frederick Mngomezulu confirmed the matter had not been to FIFA. However, he could not get into details saying they would be handling all hanging issues in their next meeting. “The PLS has not been to FIFA but we’re hopeful that in our next meeting we’ll get to conclude this matter and others,” he said.

He also said there were some processes to be done over this issue but next Thursday they were meeting again to try and bring finality into the issue. No immediate comment could be obtained from the PLS Chairman.

However, the organisation’s outgoing CEO Nqobile Magagula was reached for comment. “The FA Executive had a meeting on Thursday but our chairman hasn’t yet briefed us how far the matter has gone,” she said. She said all she knew was they were advised to write to FIFA but was unaware of what was currently happening.
