our Future is even Brighter!

For about 60 minutes, we watched a high paced, entertaining and evenly balanced match between Mbabane Swallows and Moneni Pirates last week Sunday at the Somhlolo National Stadium during the SPTC Charity Cup Itak’seta mo! semi-final qualifers.

Moneni Pirates took to the field with a line-up (inclusive of reserves) that featured 100 per cent Swazi players. These are young Swazis who have talent in football that have been given an opportunity by the club to show-case in the highest levels of football in Swaziland. Since our return to the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) from the National First Division in 2009, we have stated over and again that one of our pillars is to provide an opportunity to young talented players from lower divisions of football in Swaziland to showcase their talent in the PLS.

When the game started, the average age of the players in the starting line-up was 24 years, and when it finished it had dropped to 23. This indicates a good mix of experienced players along with young players who are yet to break from the teen stage. From where we are sitting, we predict an even brighter future with this young Moneni Pirates team than we had earlier anticipated.

We have matured but experienced campaigners in the likes of Menzi Simelane, Sifiso Magagula, Sibusiso Mngometulu, Ndumiso Dlamini, Bongani Dlamini and Andile Dlamini; young but very experienced players like Mndeni Mamba; young talented players who are in the third season with the club in the likes of Mxolisi Lukhele, Bongani Ndzimandze and Nhlanhla Sihlongonyane; young exciting talent in the likes of Ndumiso Dlamini, Menzi Mnisi, Mlingo Jele, Gcina Ngwenyama, Reagan Charles, Amos Mthembu, Sabelo Mkoko, Mfundo Bennett to name a few.

With proper implementation of the plans that we have for this season, we will be strong challengers for honours. Our belief in the young players that get introduced into the culture of the club is beginning to yield results. Talented players now see us as the most viable destination for their dreams to play in the PLS. This they do upon seeing us demonstrating in practice and at the sacrifice of quick results our mandate of giving opportunity and chance to young talent. Up the Bucs!!

Farewell Gareth Sussman

Having articulated our rich talent proposition very well, we wish to confirm that Gareth Sussman will not be donning our white and black colours in the 2013/14 season, after having successfully tried and passed trials with South African National First Division side, Thanda Royal Zulu. While Gareth was not our player (he was on loan); nor was he a player that we ever claimed to have developed; we are, however ,proud of the role we played in providing a young talented Swazi player with an opportunity to showcase his God-given talent at the big stage of Swazi football.  Gareth joined us from Manzini Sundowns, where he was a bit part player; mainly used as an impact player coming in at the dying minutes of games. When the opportunity presented itself for us to sign him, we grabbed it with both hands and signed a player we admired.

He got his opportunities, and was named the league’s best player for September 2012. He further won himself national team call-ups and some few caps. He became very instrumental in our top-4 finish in the 2012/13 season. We have trust in him representing the country and our brand well in South Africa. Do what you are best at boy!!
