MBABANE – Government is finally doing something about the malfunctioning Somhlolo National Stadium floodlights.

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has issued tender Number 81 of 2013/14 for the upgrading of the national stadium’s floodlights.
This comes in the wake of the abandoned semi-final play-off game pitting police ensemble, Royal Leopard against hub giants Manzini Wanderers last Sunday.

This was, however, not the first game to have been abandoned due to the poor state of the pitch.
The teams were, however, able to replay the game last night, courtesy of the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS). The organisation has spent E75 000 on the lights, but experts say it is just a temporary measure, hence government’s decision to upgrade the floodlights.

“Applications are invited from electrical contractors registered in the Swaziland Register of Contractors, Ministry of Public Works and Transport, wishing to tender for the upgrading of Somhlolo National floodlights at Lobamba,” part of the notice running in the media reads. No immediate comment could be obtained from the ministry at the time of going to pres last night. The latest news is, however, likely to be met with great joy by the soccer fraternity, as over the years, soccer had had to endure watching games that would later be abandoned because of the poor lighting system.
