KWAKHE, NEWMAN IMPRESS SA ’DOWNS COACH
PRETORIA – Some capital city giants Mbabane Swallows players have impressed Mamelodi Sundowns Head Coach Manqoba Mngqithi.
Mngqithi singled out these two players, stating that they posed a threat during the first leg of the second preliminary round of the TotalEnergies Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League, played two days ago. The game took place at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, where the ‘Brazilians’ hammered the ‘Beautiful Birds’ 4-0, ahead of the second leg this coming weekend.
praised
Speaking during post-match interviews, Mnqithi praised these players for their best performance on the day in the one-sided fixture. He also acknowledged that Swallows are a good club with talented players. “We’ve identified their right back, jersey number 24 (Newman Philiso), who is very good going forward, and we didn’t want to give him that chance. We’ve also identified the central midfielder, jersey number three (Kwakhe Tfwala), another very good player with a full range of passing,” the coach said.
choke
He mentioned that they knew they had to choke Tfwala, as he is the one who released balls to the wingers and Ayanda ‘Gandaganda’ Gadlela, who he described as a very good striker.
“There were a few scary moments, I won’t lie. Our defence was on high alert and it wasn’t as easy as you would think to win the game,” the gaffer said. Meanwhile, Swallows mentor Caleb Ngwenya said it was a tough learning curve for his troops and described it as a highly tactical game. “It was a tactical game; Sundowns were quicker off the mark than us. Sundowns were tactically superior in terms of their movement and ball rotation,” he said. Ngwenya also lamented conceding too early in the game but believed that the match would help his players in their growth path.
