MKHONTA’S ZESCO UNITED OUT OF CAF
MBABANE – Eswatini international and Zambian side ZESCO United versatile full-back Lindo ‘All-Trades’ Mkhonta missed the match, as his side crashed out of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup tournament.
Earlier reports suggested that the Eswatini export sustained a hamstring injury. As a result, he missed the first leg match, where Ndola giants ZESCO suffered a 0-1 defeat. Despite being fit for the second leg match staged in Levy Mwanawasa Stadium two days back, he was excused from this match. Just like in the first leg, George Lwandamina’s squad for this clash was dominated by newbies. His team played a goalless draw on home ground. The green and orange ensemble earlier released over nine players before bolstering their squad.

Regardless, Dynamos switched off the Zambian power utility side to proceed to the second preliminary round of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) second-tier inter-club tournament. “The coach has the authority to select players he deems fit for that particular match. I cannot complain about missing out on this match,” he said. Midfielder Tanaka Shandirwa scored the solitary goal for ‘The Glamour Boys’, as Dynamos are fondly known, in Gaborone, last weekend. With an aggregate of 1-0, Dynamos automatically booked a place in the next stage. This was the first time in 14 years that ZESCO bowed out in the first preliminary round of this tournament. They made seven appearances.
