PLAYER GETS E50K BAIL FOR RAPE
MBABANE – Milling Football Club’s player accused of raping a minor aged 15 has been admitted to E50 000 bail.
Andiswa Gamedze had applied for bail at the High Court of Eswatini. The bail application was heard by Judge Titus Mlangeni. The accused was granted E50 000 bail, where he was ordered to pay E5 000 in cash. The court further ordered the accused person to provide surety in terms of property worth the remainder of the bail amount. The footballer was charged with the offence of contravening some certain sections of the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence (SODV) Act of 2018, which are section 3(1) (a) as read with 3(2).
It is said that upon or about June 26, 2024 in the Manzini Region, the said accused person did wrongfully, unlawfully and intentionally had sexually intercourse with the minor once without a condom and thereby contravened the act. The footballer was represented by the MTM Ndlovu Attorneys C/O Howe Sibandze Masuku. In his affidavit, the player submitted that he was signed under Milling Football Club. He said early this month after a game, they had a minor celebration with his teammates which was joined by fans.
‘‘On this particular day, I joined them and went quickly to sleep in full view of other teammates. I was shocked when on Monday, members of the Royal Eswatini Police Service came and informed me that I was accused of drugging a particular lady and raped her in the process,’’ reads an extract from the affidavit. The accused further said he knew nothing of this nature and would have people testifying on his behalf to prove that he was not even close to the alleged complaint. ‘‘Without necessary casting aspersions, I hold a firm view that someone is plotting for a downfall in my football career and the plan is to have me not to pursue greener pastures in the Republic of South Africa. I’m innocent of the alleged charge, “he submitted.
