MILTON LEAVES ‘BULL’
MBABANE – Capital city giants Mbabane Highlanders are set to hire a new head coach after mutually parting ways with Milton ‘Spanish’ Dlamini.
The parties reportedly agreed not to renew their short-term contract, which began towards the end of last season. The former Denver Sundowns coach joined the ‘Bull’s kraal in late March after resigning from his previous club and stepping away from domestic football. Their agreement lasted until last month, with both parties deciding not to continue with their partnership.
Dlamini took charge of the team during the league games, initially working alongside former Head Coach Dumisani ‘DU’ Makhanya and Physical Trainer Siyabonga Bhembe. The duo was later relieved of their duties. Dlamini then assumed the head coach duties and Barnes Mkhulisi was his assistant. Under his guidance, the club finished sixth in the 2023/24 MTN Premier League standings. Before his departure, the former Baroka coach was reportedly promoted to the role of technical director.
Mutual
When reached for comment, ‘Spanish’ confirmed the mutual decision to part ways. He appreciated the opportunity to assist the team achieve its goals. “Yes, we have mutually decided to do and I would like to thank Mbabane Highlanders MD (Managing Director) Ally Kgomongwe, all stakeholders, and supporters for being part of this big brand. Highlanders are an established and big brand. It comes as an honour and blessing to play for and be given a chance also to coach them,” Dlamini said. Asked about the next step, he said the coaching profession sometimes needed one to take a break to remain clear-headed. “When the time is right, I will definitely let you know,” Dlamini said.
Meanwhile, efforts to draw Highlanders Public Relations Officer (PRO) Kenneth Dlamini were fruitless. He requested to call back after he was out of a meeting. At the time of finalising this report, he was yet to return the call and confirm the latest developments. Meanwhile, reports this week also suggested that Highlanders made one key new signing. Former Denver Sundowns’ midfielder Siphamandla ‘24 Reasons’ Maseko was reportedly having signed on the black and white dotted line.
