WHERE IS INGWENYAMA CUP’S E1.4M? - PAC
LOBAMBA – The PAC has asked HMCS Commissioner General Lamakhosini Dlamini to disclose the whereabouts of the Ingwenyama Cup’s E1.4 million grand prize, which was won by Green Mamba Football Club.
This club is under His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS) and they are the current champions of the prestigious and prominent football and culture tournament. The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Vice Chairperson, Manzi Zwane, noted that the committee was concerned about the resources used by football teams that were under the security forces. The MP said they noted that these teams used resources that were supposed to deliver services to emaSwati, yet the nation was not realising the value for money in these football teams or clubs. “It would be unfair to the other security services if we do not ask you about your football team as well,” he said.
The MP asked what happened to the prize money that was collected by the team, since it was funded by the taxpayer. Zwane said the taxpayer should benefit from the winnings of the team in the sense that some of its winnings should be deposited into the consolidated fund. “In your case, commissioner general, your team won a serious prize from Ingwenyama Cup, what happens to those funds, how will you utilise them, will the taxpayer get some returns?” he asked.
In response, the commissioner general told the PAC that HMCS had a number of sporting and cultural cadres and they were all part of their work. Dlamini said some of the prizes won by these various cadres were ploughed back to HMCS, by fixing the service’s motor vehicles, among other responsibilities. She said it was for that reason the service had better-functioning fleet compared to other government departments.
