SIPHILE DREAMS OF DONNING NATIONAL TEAM JERSEY
MBABANE – “I aspire to play for the national team.”
These were the words of Siphile Motsa, who is currently playing for Amawele. The latter are a National First Division (NFD)-bound side after winning the Hhohho Super League. Motsa spoke of his aspirations, inspired by his growth in the globally beloved sport. He began his journey at Eveni Football Club, where he played for the Under-20s at just 15. After two seasons at Eveni, he caught the attention of Mbabane Swallows’ development. Spending time with the capital city giants’ Under-17 and Under-20 sides, his progress was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, which brought all sporting activities to a halt.
Returning to Eveni and then moving on to HRFA Promotional League side Mphalati Dribbling Stars, Motsa’s standout performance drew interest from Sidwashini United (Seven Dreams) after they clinched the league title, earning a spot in the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE). Following a successful season in the HRFA Super League, Motsa joined Amawele, securing a place in the NFD after a 1-0 victory at home and protecting their one goal lead away at Mkhuzweni against Zibonele Vultures.
Improve
Moreover, expressing his desire to play for the national team, Motsa acknowledged that he felt prepared but recognised areas of his game that he wished to improve first. “There are quite a number of things I’m still to learn before I can get to the big stage. My structure, for example, still needs some work, focusing on fitness levels that need to be consistent,” Motsa shared.
Balancing school and professional soccer, Motsa revealed that despite receiving offers from notable teams, his school commitments prevented him from accepting them. He further disclosed that professional clubs in the country trained twice a day, which, due to his school schedule, was impossible for him to attend as he finished school at 5pm.
