EX-‘BIRDS’ STAR OFF TO N. IRELAND

MATSAPHA – Seven Dreams veteran midfielder Richard McCreesh has made a decision to pursue his football career in Northern Ireland.

According to a source close to the matter, the former Mbabane Swallows star is set to join an unnamed third division side in Northern Ireland, where he will first undergo assessment. Reports suggested the player left the country two days ago, and his former club conveyed their well-wishes for his next endeavour on their official Facebook page. “Let’s wish Richard McCreesh all the best; he went for trials in Northern Ireland. He already left the country yesterday (Saturday),” reads the post. Meanwhile, Richard’s journey commenced at regional side Pot O’ Gold Juniors, where he honed his skills before seamlessly transitioning to the senior team.

It was during this period that he caught the eye of Mbabane Swallows’ Under-20 side, which was coached by Lwazi Simelane at the time, where he continued to ascend the ranks, eventually solidifying his position in the senior team. The publication reached the club’s President, Melizwe Mamba, who was quizzed on the name of the team linked with  McCreesh. Mamba informed this publication that details pertaining that were still with McCreesh, who has also not responded to questions sent to him via WhatsApp. In 2015, at the age of 19, McCreesh’s undeniable talent earned him a promotion to Mbabane Swallows’ first team, setting the stage for a series of remarkable accomplishments throughout his tenure with the club.

His time at Mbabane Swallows was adorned with a string of triumphs. Notable among his achievements are the King’s Super Cup in 2015, consecutive victories in the Castle Premier Challenge in 2015 and 2016, and securing the Eswatini Bank Cup in 2016. McCreesh’s instrumental role in clinching the Ingwenyama Cup in 2016, 2017, and 2018, as well as the MTN Premier League titles in 2017 and 2018, further underscored his impact on the team. His contributions were equally pivotal in securing victories in the Eswatini Telecom Charity Cup in 2017 and 2018. Furthermore, his participation in the group stage of the African Champions League and accumulation of seven international caps attest to his proficiency as a footballer of international calibre.

In 2020, McCreesh embarked on a new chapter in his career, joining Manzini Wanderers, before making a return to Mbabane Swallows in 2021, reaffirming his allegiance to the club that played an instrumental role in shaping his career. The subsequent years saw McCreesh charting new territory, as he ventured into the National First Division (NFD) with Sidwashini United, operating under the banner of Seven Dreams. Undoubtedly, his presence in this new domain infused fresh energy and expertise into the league, which paved the way for further successes in his illustrious career, including the recent NFD title. Meanwhile, Northern Ireland is a part of the United Kingdom in the north-east of the island of Ireland that is variously described as a country, province or region. At the 2021 census, its population was calculated at over 1.9 million, making up around three per cent of the UK’s population.
