MBABANE - Most fans are disappointed following the omission of Mbabane Swallows midfield sensation Sizolwethu ‘Nunu’ Shabalala from the Sihlangu squad.

The final squad was announced by Interim Coach Dominic Kunene, two days ago, during a media briefing held at Sigwaca House. ‘Nunu’ last featured for the national team on November 21, 2023, during the FIFA World Cup qualification (CAF), when Sihlangu was defeated 2-0 by Cape Verde.

He was then dropped from the squad that faced Somalia in the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers where Eswatini won by a 5-2 aggregate. Following the announcement, the Eswatini Premier League Facebook fan page was flooded with posts and comments from fans expressing their disappointment.

Influential

The winger has been influential in his team’s success, Mbabane Swallows, as they won the premier league and were runners-up in the Ingwenyema Cup. As of yesterday afternoon, the post which sparked the fans’ debate had 260 likes and 121 comments.

Reacting to his snub, Nunu posted a message on his personal Facebook account which reads, “You won’t be liked by everyone; that’s life for you.’’ The Swallows attacking midfielder was left out by interim Coach Dominic Kunene from the 26-man squad. Sihlangu will travel to Angola for the International Federation of Football Association (FIFA) World Cup Qualifiers on June 7 in Luanda, Angola. They will also participate in the Council of Southern Africa Football Association (COSAFA) later on.
