MBABANE –Denver Sundowns’ super fan ‘Popo’ feels her favourite side might not escape the chop on Sunday.

Sundowns are currently at the bottom of the MTN Premier League charts. They face Manzini Wanderers who are also another relegation candidate in the final fixture. The hub derby will be a curtain-raiser for the blockbuster between Mbabane Swallows and Young Buffaloes at Somhlolo National Stadium.

‘Popo,’ whose real name is Ncobile Sibanyoni, has cited financial woes as the primary reason, the team may not avoid relegation. “I don’t think we’ll be able to survive relegation 15 years after we last played in the National First Division. Some circumstances, such as financial challenges have caused them to stumble. As fans, we have no other option but to quickly accept this disheartening fate,” Sibanyoni said.

However, Sundowns still have a chance to retain their Premier League status. All they need is to secure a fifth league win by defeating the maroon and white outfit on Sunday. This victory could save them, but only if Ezulwini United also manage to defeat Moneni Pirates.

Nevertheless, Sibanyoni views relegation as not the end of the road but as a potential benefit. “We’ll bounce back stronger if we get relegated. Most teams have regrouped after relegation, as it sometimes enforces changes in the structures and administration of clubs. Besides the financial troubles, Sundowns need to do some self-reflection and put its house in order to relieve us from the season-long heartache,” she further said.

‘Popo’ has been a dedicated supporter of Sundowns for over two decades. Her love for ‘iKappa Kappa,’ defies her family’s allegiance to Pirates. She has remained steadfast in her support for the Manzini side since 2003.
