LULAMA RESCUES POINT IN U-19 MBABANE DERBY

MBABANE – The Under-19 Mbabane derby kicked off with Mbabane Highlanders putting their noses in front at the UNESWA Sports Ground.

The fixture concluded in a 1-1 draw, leaving both teams with plenty to reflect on ahead of next season. In the broader league context, the conclusion of the league saw Royal Leopard clinching the Under-19 League for the second consecutive season under the guidance of Sibusiso Fakudze.

However, neither Swallows nor Highlanders were able to improve their positions, with Swallows maintaining a sixth-place standing with 22 points, and Highlanders remaining in ninth place with 17 points following the draw in the derby. In the 37th minute, Mbabane Highlanders’ Welcome Du Pont broke the deadlock, giving his team a well-deserved lead. The first half concluded with Highlanders in the driving seat, leading 1-0 and displaying their proficiency on the field.

Efficiency

Highlanders fired the first shot within the opening two minutes, showcasing their attacking efficiency. Swallows’ goalkeeper, Sibahle ‘Banana’ Dlamini was put to the test early on, when Highlanders unleashed a powerful shot in the eighth minute, only to be denied by an acrobatic save. The second half saw Lulama Mkhaliphi equalising for Swallows just five minutes after the restart, setting the stage for a tense and fierce battle.  Swallows faced a nervy moment in the 64th minute as they cleared the ball off the goal line, denying Highlanders a second goal.
Ultimately, the fixture concluded with Mbabane Swallows’ Lulama rescuing a point for the red and white side, ensuring that the Mbabane derby ended in a hard-fought 1-1 draw.
