BOXERS RAISE THEIR FISTS

Sunday greetings!

We are on track to delivering the first National Women’s Sports Day in a very long time. The devastating effects of COVID-19 robbed us of so many opportunities. On May 11, 2024, the Technical Centre at Lobamba, just next to the Somhlolo National Stadium, will be the place to be. Upon the realisation that women are among the most marginalised groups in our society, this day, therefore, is a festival meant to celebrate women empowerment in sports. It is one of our programmes, which seeks to increase women’s participation in sports. Women, as we all know, are among the most marginalised groups in our society alongside those with disabilities. Women struggle to get equal opportunities when it comes to sports. Most, unfortunately still subscribe to the notion that a woman’s place is in the kitchen. Well, it’s not. Women deserve equal opportunities to partake in sports. They too need to be given a chance when it comes to sports.

come one come all

We did say that we are extremely happy as the ESRC to be in a position to provide such an opportunity for the fairer sex. We expect local women to come in numbers for the event, which has been tailored for them. It will obviously be a family fun day, as our programmes never fail to thrill. We do not discriminate against anyone. Both the young and old are welcome.  We have invited a number of companies to be part of the day. However, that should not stop any woman from attending personally. It is free entry to the event and everyone is welcome.
Today, however, we would like to congratulate the Eswatini Boxing Association (EBA) for their wonderful showing in Durban, South Africa recently. Against some of the finest the continent has to offer the locals managed to bring back three medals. These were two silver and one bronze. It was a stunning showing by the two girls and one gentleman. The past week saw the trio being rewarded by His Majesty’s Government at the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs. Minister Bongani Nzima gave out government’s incentives amounting to E27 000 for the trio to share. We are obviously big in podium finishes and we would like to once again congratulate the trio for raising the standard.

Registration for Women’s Day still on

We have already sent out invitations to some corporate companies to be part of the National Women’s Sports Day. Registration for the event is still open. Companies and organisations should just fill the form attached to their invitations and return these. Remember, registration is free of charge.

Shukuma Timphisini on

Following endless queries with regards to the ESRC flagship programme, Shukuma Eswatini, well, the wait is over. The next stop will be the Timphisini Inkhundla in the Hhohho Region. This one is slated for May 18, 2024. It will be staged exactly a week after the National Women’s Sports Day. As our people know, our flagship programme has revolved not only to become a one stop shop for our parents ministry, the ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, but this programme is now a premium platform for mass public engagement.
We are expecting the people of Timphisini and surrounding areas to come in numbers for the day. It will be a spectacular event, as always. Our National Sports Associations will be available, alongside our partners both social and corporate. This is what has made the programme to be so spectacular. Let us take this opportunity to invite all and sundry to attend Shukuma Eswatini. Those who have attended the first three editions of our programme this year, will readily testify that the programme is no longer what it used to be in the past.
Until next week, sport for all sports for life!
