MBABANE – Three executive members of the Eswatini Cycling Association (ECA) have terminated their services with the organisation.

Topping the list of individuals who have stepped down is President Sifiso ‘Zwide’ Nxumalo. The Darkton Cycling Club founder submitted his resignation earlier this month, ending his tenure of about four years. “It is with mixed emotions that I tender my resignation as President of the Eswatini Cycling Association, effective immediately. After careful consideration and reflection, I have decided that it is in the best interest of the sport for me to hand over the reins at this point and pursue new opportunities and challenges,” ‘Zwide’ wrote.

He further said he was honoured to serve the sport and achieved significant milestones and advancements in promoting cycling in Eswatini. He promised to continue supporting the cycling association. “While it is difficult to part ways with a community that has become like family to me, I am confident that the foundation we have built together will continue to thrive and grow under new leadership.

The camaraderie, resilience and resolute spirit of the Eswatini Cycling Association will undoubtedly pave the way for even greater successes in the future,” he added. Meanwhile, the ECA has also confirmed the changes in its leadership. ‘Zwide’s’ former vice, Kelly William, has now ascended to the position of president, acting until the next Annual General Assembly (AGM).

Replacement

During the AGM, a decision will be made regarding his replacement according to a letter by ECA revealing the latest developments. Kelly also announced the resignation of two other members. “There have been some recent changes in the leadership of the association as a result of the untimely passing of Treasurer Shirley-Kenny Motsa and the resignations of President Sifiso ‘Zwide’ Nxumalo, Assistant Secretary General Mandisa Matsebula, and ordinary member Themba Mahlalela,” the letter stated.

Mduduzi Mkhabela has assumed the role of treasurer until 2025, while Darren Dunn has become the assistant secretary general. The position of Vice President remains unfilled.
