‘SIKHALI’ TOPS LEAGUE’S HIGHEST PAID PLAYERS

MBABANE – Green Mamba’s lethal striker Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa maintains his position as the highest-paid player in the MTN Premier League.

According to reliable sources, the former Mbabane Highlanders striker currently earns a monthly salary of E22 000 - a significant increase from the E17 000 he previously earned at Highlanders. ‘Sikhali’  joined the Correctional Services side at the start of the 2023/24 MTN Premier League season, following interest from Mbabane Swallows, Young Buffaloes and Royal Leopard in 2022. Upon signing with Green Mamba, Ndzinisa received a substantial signing-on fee of over E150 000. Since joining the team, the former Inkunzi Emnyama player has proven to be a valuable asset, helping Inyoka Eluhlazane secure their third league title in the club’s history last season. His impressive form has continued into the current season, leading the league as the top goalscorer with 16 goals.

The forward also played an instrumental role in helping his team defend the Ingwenyama Cup, scoring the winning goal in their narrow 1-0 victory against Swallows. Furthermore, he finished the tournament as the top goalscorer with an impressive seven goals in five games. The Ernest Mavuso-led side is currently in contention for another league title, trailing current league leaders Mbabane Swallows by two points after their 3-2 win against security forces rivals, Young Buffaloes on Saturday afternoon at King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium.
“These figures I get from the teams as I work closely with them. ‘Sikhali’ is the highest-paid player in the country,” said our source. Umkhonto KaShaka attacking midfielder Felix ‘Fela’ Badernhorst who has been on the sidelines after undergoing a shoulder injury early this year after he hurt himself during the Ingwenyama Cup last 16 game against Tambankulu Celtics at Mayaluka Stadium is the second -highest earner in the country.

He is reportedly earning E17 500 a month at the capital city giants. ‘Fela’ joined the ‘Birds’ from the nowdefunct Mbombela United over two years ago. He also received a E100 000 signing-on fee upon re-joining the red and white ensemble late last in 2021. Back in October 2021, this publication had reported that Badenhorst was the highest paid player at the time in the MTN Premier League.

Meanwhile, in the world, the highest-paid player is Cristiano Ronaldo, who recently completed a move to Saudi Arabia side, Al Nassr and the Portuguese forward receives a staggering salary of E303 940 000 per month. Experts, on the other hand, say footballers are paid so much because the demand for talented football players is high, as they increase the team’s chances of winning titles.
