TEQERS TO BE VETTED BY INTERNATIONAL BODY
MBABANE – Teqball Eswatini Federation (TEF) recently completed its four qualifier’s rounds at Mavuso Sports Centre.
TEF President Taribo Bhembe said as they were done with the qualifications, what was left was to report to the International Federation of Teqball (IFT) and to wait for an official response from the international body. IFT would then approve the criterion of the qualified players such as their health status, most importantly and their identities under their country’s federation.
This is simply to make sure that the shortlisted players were indeed from the TEF in this instance. Bhembe said the federation was yet to officially announce the five qualified players once they had received feedback from the international body. Bhembe also stated that it would be amiss not to thank Lactalis through their brand Cabana UHT for lending a helping hand to the federation, as they were allocated E30 000 to cater for local sporting activities including, but not limited to the four rounds of the national challenge, dubbed the Cabana Teqball National Challenge.
The four rounds were a criterion for qualifications for the World Championships in Thailand, Bangkok, which are billed for November 29 to December 3, this year. The Eswatini Sports and Recreational Council (ESRC) also availed and aided the federation in allocating an indoor venue, as well as provided finances to be able to move the tables to and from the venue, which they were grateful for.
Meanwhile, Menzi Mnisi expressed his excitement on making the short listed team, which was yet to be officially announced by the federation. He said going to the All Africa Beach games in Tunisia, Hammamet, helped them to assess the level to compete with the best. Mnisi said as much as they had acquired some experience, the world championships were a different stage. However, the prolific Teqer revealed that he had so much faith in the team that managed to qualify. “I’m very happy for qualifying; I think it’s about consistency more than anything. The level of competition has improved. Going to Tunisia helped us so much, even though it was beach games, but there is a lot we learnt. I also have so much faith in the team that has qualified, seeing as that the level of competition was much higher,” Mnisi said.
