MBABANE – As the AFCON qualifiers reach a crucial stage, Togo will have a two-week camp in South Africa (SA) ahead of their June 18 clash with Eswatini.

The national team, Sihlangu will host Togo in Mbombela Stadium for the fifth Africa Cup of Nations Group B match. Although Eswatini is currently at third in the group standings, they are pegged with two points with Togo who occupy the bottom seat. According to an online sports platform Foot Mercanto, the Sparrow Hawks, as Togo are nicknamed, are expected to make a stop in South Africa next week. However, the publication did not reveal the details of their arrival dates and the exact province where they might have their two-week camp.

Togo’s Portuguese coach, Paulo Duarte, has last week named a 27-member squad to face Dominic Kunene’s men. The local side is in full camp ahead of this crucial game at the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Lobamba Technical Centre, where they entered into the camp on Monday. Speaking yesterday on the national radio Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Service (EBIS) sports show, EFA Marketing and Communications Officer Muzi Radebe said that Togo’s game is a must-win game.

“Our national team has already begun preparations for this game to show how important it is. Each nation is intensifying its preparations ahead of the game to increase their chances of qualifying,” Radebe said. Both teams still have chances to qualify mathematically. They both need to win the last two remaining fixtures. Eswatini will end its qualifiers with Burkina Faso, who has already qualified, while Togo will visit Cape Verde in their fixture. Radebe, also, mentioned that there would be no rest for Sihlangu after the AFCON qualifiers. He said they would immediately enter into a full camp ahead of the COSAFA championships.
