MBABANE – Swazi Slojo’s Athletics Club runner Mduduzi Dlamini continues to shine in the weekly Mbabane Parkrun.

He was once again in an uncompromising mood in the 216th Mbabane Parkrun, which was postponed last weekend to make way for a golf tournament, which was hosted by the Mbabane Golf Club. The city’s parkrun uses the Mbabane Golf Course for its 5km track. Dlamini also missed the last edition as he attended the Voice of the Church (VOC) Half Marathon, which was held at Zakhele Sports Ground in Manzini a fortnight ago.

This edition saw most of the quicker runners back as they attended the VOC Half Marathon; it was once again the Swazi Slojo’s athlete, who was the first runner home as he finished the 5km course in a time of 17:36 minutes. This brought Dlamini’s tally of first place finishes to 40. The record is 26 behind that of all-time champion Nkululeko Gama, who boasts 66 wins. Right behind Dlamini was Bukhosi Dlamini, who was attending the parkrun for the fifth time; he clocked 19:10 minutes to claim the second spot.

Completing the top three positions was Sibonelo Makhanya with a time of 19:16 minutes. It was Makhanya’s fifth run too. In the ladies section, it was the evergreen Phiwokuhle Bulunga, who was fresh from setting a new record at the Manzini Parkrun, who claimed the pole position. She completed the course in a time of 23:49 minutes. This was her 25th first place finish in 25 runs. Following her home was Calisile Mthethwa, who clocked 26:35 minutes; she was completing her 24th parkrun on Saturday. Zethu Bhembe came third in a time of 30:06 minutes.
