MBABANE – The trio of Mongiwetfu Masuku, Qiniso Mkhonta and Tsabile Dlamini left a mark in their respective categories in the Nobuhle Dlamini Junior Golf Challenge.

The tournament was staged at Ezulwini Golf and Country Club on Saturday. The one-day tournament was founded by Eswatini top professional golfer Nobuhle Dlamini. The past weekend marked the second edition and it attracted 86 junior golfers. Mkhonta won in the Post Junior Division category after carding a gross score of 77, while Masuku shone in the A Division category after beating his competitors with an impressive score of 82 gross.

Shining in the Girls A division was Tsabile Dlamini with 101 gross. Early this year Masuku beat a field of over 60 golfers in the SBS Mbabane Golf Club Championship. Meshack Zwane, who was one of the organisers, congratulated the winners. “The overall winner was Mongiwetfu Masuku after battling it out for the title in the playoffs with Mukelwa Maziya. The ladies category was won by Tsabile Dlamini, beating her all time rival Kaylah Zwane. Our host also invited kids who had gone past the age limit of 18 to come back as post juniors and created their category,” said Zwane.

Appreciated

He said they highly appreciated Nobuhle’s effort to include the post junior division category to compete since they came through from the same development. Zwane also thanked the sponsors. “Let’s thank all our sponsors under Nomads Golf Club, Eswatini Golf Union and parents for keeping our development in good shape,” said Zwane. He went on to thank Nobuhle for her kind gesture. “She remembers where her golf started and she gave back which is commendable. We had a field of more golfers than last year’s edition. This shows growth compared to last year’s first edition which attracted 68 golfers,” he said. He said as coaches they felt the energy and thankful to work with amazing talents. He also appreciated Ezulwini Golf and Country Club for sponsoring all their green fees on the day.
