‘BIRDS’ STAR KABIA FLYING OUT!
MBABANE – Capital city giants Mbabane Swallows will lose the services of Sierra Leone defensive midfielder Mohammed Kabia at the end of the season.
This was revealed by the player’s agent, Alhassan Kamara, who said that one of the reasons the his player would not be playing for the Caleb Ngwenya-led charges next season was because of an alleged strained relationship with Mbabane Swallows management. The former Denver Sundowns player was recently served with a letter of suspension after not attending the ‘Birds’ game, which was against Nsingizini Hotspurs earlier this year, where the Mbabane giants won 2-0.
He was further slapped with three charges for misconduct. It later came out through the London-based agent that Swallows had still not paid a loan fee of E20 000 for the services of the player, with the agreement mentioning that the money was to be paid last year in December, which the club failed to do. A day later, the player and Swallows resolved their differences which made the former Denver Sundowns player to return to training, with Swallows General Manager Sandile ‘Beyond 2000’ Zwane saying in a press conference that they had made contact with the agent and agreed to pay the loan fee of E20 000.
In an interview yesterday, Kamara accused Swallows of playing hide and seek with him all the time, saying Kabia was not going to renew his contract after the club reportedly breached his contract. “Kabia will leave at the end of the season and we are just waiting for the season to end. For us at the moment, we have passed the stage that even if they can now give us the money for the loan and it is now something we no longer want to discuss with them anymore. We had a conversation with them after the player did not attend training and they promised to pay the money the next day which until today they have failed to do so,” he lamented.
Reflecting on Mohammed’s stay at the ‘Umkhonto KaShaka, Kamara who also represents Tambuti FC striker Issa Serry mentioned that his stay at the club has been very successful. “I’m not going to dispute the fact that we are very happy about the opportunity that Swallows gave him and at the same time the player has been giving his best representing the club, which has also seen him being called up to his senior national team. The fact that he was called while playing in Africa should tell you of his quality because the Sierra Leone national team is dominated by European-based players,” Kamara said.
The London-based agent went on to say that in a recent game involving Swallows and Mozambican Costa Do Sol recently the player left the Mozambique club technical team impressed. “There are clubs running after the player’s signature and we have top clubs in Eswatini also showing interest in the player. We are looking for the right offer and it is not even about the money, but definitely the player won’t be playing for Swallows next season,” he added.
Meanwhile, Swallows General Manager Zwane said the club could respond to a rumour. “We don’t want to respond to something that comes from the paper. If he wants to say something to us, we have a correspondence as we are a professional team and I don’t see why we need we should communicate with the newspaper now.‘Beyond 2000’ went on to say that people were doing all they can to disturb them. “We are having games coming in. We have big MTN Premier League games that will be deciding the league that we should be focusing on,” he revealed.
The Sierra Leone international player joined the red and white capital giants before the start of the season from a loan-deal from his parent team Alaska back in his native country. Kabia before joining Swallows was playing for Denver Sundowns locally. The player after joining Umkhonto KaShaka was immediately called up by his country to represent them in the 2022/23 TOTALEnergies Under-23 Qualifier. His stellar performance for the Under-23s got him a call up to the senior team.
