MBABANE – Shocker of shockers.

Who would have thought that Manzini Regional Pool Association (MRPA) team Stairs could defeat a classy and star-studded Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) Pool Team? Well, believe it or not, this was the biggest upset as the Dixie’s International E30 000 Pool League kicked off its fifth edition over the weekend. REPS are the defending champions and gunning for treble success after winning the last two editions, but their title defence took a crumble from the least expected of rivals. If anything, Stairs have been the whipping boys of the league for over two years now alongside Phocweni Pool Club.

snatched

However, those days seem to be over after they made their biggest catch during the window period – they snatched the country’s best in reigning Champion of Champions winner, Zweli Siziba Dlamini. Yes, you read it right, the star player who is also a senior national team asset, quit his team which he joined from the first edition of the league to join Stairs. “He was a big catch, a marquee signing for Stairs who then got a couple other good players but no big names to boost their squad. What a start they had and Siziba was on top of his game against the police team’ stars. He single-handedly inspired Stairs to an overwhelming 13-9 win,” confirmed a source on condition of anonymity. Siziba also faced his former Way Inn and national teammate in Colani Mbingo, but he was uncompromising as he won his frames to ensure they recorded victory. REPS dominate the senior national team with big names like Sibusiso Nhlabatsi and Mbingo, among others.

experienced

However, they lost experienced and continentally high ranking Sithembiso ‘Dodge’ Matsebula at the end of last season after he also helped them win the league and Dixie’s International Pool Knockout. While Siziba destroyed REPS, his former team Way Inn was also up to a positive start with a 13-10 victory away to Ludzeludze 1, while Manzini Pool Club (MPC) bashed Bhunya 13-5 in an away match as well. MRPA Secretary Musa Dlamini confirmed the results and Siziba’s move to Stairs.
