ESWATINI TO HOST AFRICAN GOLF CUP
MBABANE – The Association of Golf in Africa, African Golf Tour has announced that Eswatini will be the first country in the African continent to host the first edition of the African Nations Challenge Golf Cup.
The tournament will take place in June, this year. Professional Golfer Meshack Zwane who is a member of the association said the country was given hosting rights and all countries must bring five players for the tournament. “Eswatini has been given the hosting rights for the African Nations Challenge Cup that will be playing in the country on the 19th-25th of June 2023. All the countries will be coming down and the country will be hosting the entire continent. Currently, we want to put a committee as already we have a chairman in Kenneth Nkambule for the local organising committee that will ensure that the country is well covered and Nkambule will choose a committee that he will work with. All the other finer things are being done like the prices money which is not something that is organised locally. They are bringing in the money here and the tournament will be in the country,’’ he said.
support
The local organising committee’s different delegates from different countries will be spending money in the tournament and asked for the support from government. “We ask our government to support the initiative; there will be many people in the country that will be using the hotels. The first two days will see the corporates showcasing their work and amateurs will be involved. There will be delegates who will be marketing the country. The Africa Nations Challenge Cup is a big tournament that needs to be well prepared because the world will be watching,” Zwane said. Eswatini Professional Golfers Association President, Musa Mdluli could not be drawn for comment after her cell phone rang unanswered when called yesterday. Every country with a registered PGA will be eligible to register both a national team and individuals for a 72 hole stroke play tournament that will be played over four days, in a race to be crowned the Champions of Africa.
