SITEKI – MTN Premier League log leaders Young Buffaloes are set to face the wrath of the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Disciplinary Committee.

On the stroke of fulltime, the Mandla ‘Stofu’ Dlamini-led side’s management went straight to the referee of the day, Wandile Mamba, threatening to assault him. This happened in the MTN Premier League match between Buffaloes and rookies Madlenya, which was played at KaLanga Technical Centre in Siteki on Saturday. The game ended in a 1-all draw. A certain group of the army side’s officials, just minutes after Mamba’s final whistle, rushed towards the centre line to confront the referee. They were heard shouting derogatory words directed to Mamba, which cannot be repeated for ethical reasons.

The 2022/23 MTN Premier League Rules and Regulations frown upon such conduct exhibited by Amathole Ezinyathi’s officials. The move is in contravention of Article 10 (6) (2), which states clearly that threatening by conduct of words to assault or attempt to assault a referee, Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) official, player, club official, steward, supporter, fan, spectator is punishable with a minimum fine of E10 000 and a maximum fine of E30 000, when found guilty. In addition, the offending club shall be ordered to compensate the victim for any financial, medical and any other costs incurred due to the assault by the DC.

Just recently Highlanders were hauled before the DC, which was chaired by Lawyer Thulani Sibandze to answer for the Mavuso Sports Centre mayhem, where a section of the team’s fans bayed for the blood of top referee Mbongeni Shongwe. This was after Shongwe was alleged to have allowed a goal scored by Manzini Sea Birds’ Sandumuzi Zwane using a hand. The black and white capital giants eventually lost the match 2-1. The DC charged the black bull with four counts, of which they were acquitted on three and were ordered to pay E70 000 and playing one of their category B games behind closed doors. They played their home game against Tambuti last Friday without supporters in an MTN Premier League match at KaLanga Technical Centre, which ended in a goalless draw.
