MBABANE – Expect cycling events to be better organised in the near future.

This is more so because Eswatini Cycling Association (ECA) Secretary General (SG) Mxolisi Shongwe, will today attend a seminar on cycling organisation held at the headquarters of the Confederation of African Cycling (CAC) in Egypt’s capital, Cairo. The four-day seminar, titled ‘Organisation in Cycling’, is hosted by the CAC and is aimed at improving the way cycling events are organised and managed. As per the correspondence from the President of the Confederation of African Cycling, Dr Wagih Azzam, who is also the Vice President of the world cycling governing body, the Union Cyclite International (UCI). the seminar is held in framework of the pursuance of the development plans of cycling in Africa and would tackle important aspects in terms of cycling organisation and development.

Impact

The ECA President, Sifiso Zwide Ndwandwe thanked the Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council (ESRC) for supporting and facilitating of Shongwe’s trip, adding that the representation would have a positive impact in developing the sport in Eswatini. “On behalf of the cycling community in Eswatini, I would like to wish our SG a safe trip and we are counting on it being a productive one that will enhance our sport in the long-term. He left the country yesterday and is expected back home on Sunday. The trip would definitely not been possible without the support of the Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council who covered the costs of the flight to Egypt,” Ndwandwe said.

The president further highlighted that there were two more events in the pipeline and yet to be finalised with their partners and relevant stakeholders. Further developments would be communicated in due course. Before his departure yesterday, Shongwe also thanked the sports council for funding his trip, adding that it would help them to better strategise and plan for a new season next year.

“We look to build on the success of the 2022 cycling season as we develop our plan for next year. We are looking forward to this being a learning and networking experience that will not only open our eyes on areas where we could possibly improve, but also open doors and pathways to fruitful partnerships and collaborations with other African states.” Shongwe said.
