BIG BEND – Manzini Wanderers finally snapped their seven-match winless streak when they defeated Tambuti 3-1 in a MTN Premier League match played here yesterday afternoon.

Goals from Bongumenzi Dlamini, Njabulo ‘Koko’ Gama and Neliswa ‘Tiger’ Dlamini earned the hub giants the victory over Tambuti who grabbed a consolation goal through Mbusiseni ‘Zungu’ Motsa. Wanderers entered the match rock bottom on the standings and winless in all the MTN Premier league matches this season. Tambuti, a rung higher on the ladder above the hub giants by 4 points, also had no form to speak of, but they managed one win and a draw in their last six outings.

Performance

The away side’s performance on the day was probably best summed up by the few Wanderers supporters as they chanted ‘finally we have won’, in celebration of their team’s first victory this season.Tambuti made their intentions clear in the opening few minutes of the game, as Motsa came close to scoring from very close range following a set piece. The sugar-belt side kept the pressure on Wanderers and in the 24th minute they were rewarded after ‘Zungu’ broke the deadlock after being  brilliantly set up by Sabelo Ndwandwe to make it 1-0 for the home side.

Wanderers started dominating after Tambuti’s goal but failed to create many clear-cut chances. That was until Bongumenzi scored from a seemingly impossible angle after the visitors were caught napping and Mopina set up Bongumenzi who levelled for the away side. The two teams were locked at 1-1 during the half-time break.

It was end-to-end stuff after the restart, with both teams launching attacks. Andile Gadlela forced Bongiswa into a smart diving save and at the other end Fabrice header was denied by a well-positioned goalkeeper Ncedo Mamba.
Wanderers started controlling the game and came close to a second goal when Neliswa shot from the edge of the box. He was blocked by goalkeeper Mamba.

The away side continued to push for the second goal and were rewarded for their determination in the 54th minute. ‘Koko’ pounced on a loose ball and finished to make it 2-1 for the away side. Midfield dynamite maestro Neliswa capped off the comfortable win with a third goal from close range in the 87th  minute to send the few Wanderers fans on cloud nine. Tambuti tried to find their way back into the game, but Wanderers held on for their first win in the new season to move two places up.
