MBABANE – Christmas came early for the Lubombo Regional Football Association (LRFA).

This comes after Swazi Trac sponsored the region’s ‘elite league’ with E69 700 to cater for the league and a top eight knock out tournament for the 2022/23 season. The ‘marriage’ between Swazi Trac and LRFA dates back to 2014. The farming machinery supplier also sponsored the Hhohho Regional Football League Super League in both the Northern and Southern zones.

Sponsorship

Presenting the sponsorship was Swazi Trac representative identified as Mathonsi who applauded the LRFA executive for good corporation and services in the past season as the association would send reports as well as timely feedbacks on every activity that entailed the sponsor. “I would like to appreciate the clubs for showing good behaviour and honouring the matches without violence, which contributes a lot in terms of protecting our brand as Swazi Trac,” Mathonsi said.

He also said that they were affected as a company by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic as they incurred a loss in the past two years.
“This resulted to the company in resolving to end sponsorship with the region, however Swazi Trac changed their decision after looking at factors, which benefited more especially that the Lubombo Region has a lot of farming companies,” he said. He further pleaded with the LRFA to produce quality players, who would make it to the national team for the growth of the sport in the region.

Support

Meanwhile, LRFA Chairman Nichodimus ‘Ace’ Mashwama thanked Swazi Trac for the continued support in the region, even though faced by financial challenges due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. He also encouraged clubs to continue showing good behaviour during games and to protect the name of the sponsor. He finally, on behalf of Eswatini Football Association (EFA) President Peter ‘Samora’ Simelane thanked the sponsor for the kind gesture in the development of football in the country and requested Mathonsi to pass their gratitude to Swazi Trac Director Ian Boyd for the support.
