MANZINI – Another setback.

Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows suffered their second National First Division (NFD) League defeat to rookies Louis XIV. Black Swallows have also lost to Milling Hot Spurs 1-2 while playing a 1-all draw with Malanti Chiefs in the league opener. This result ensured that the Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe-led charges remained on position 11 of the log standings with a single point. Notably is that the Pigg’s Peak side had earlier before the league kicked off pronounced their mandate of returning to top flight league.

The Kukhanyeni-based side broke the deadlock just before the hour mark. Colani Dvuba put his side one step ahead in the 59th minute after he was picked by Colani Mdluli inside the box. He took a hard ground shot that left the goalkeeper Bheka Christie sprawled on the ground. Later on in  the 73rd minute, Christie cost his side after handling a back pass which saw the home side awarded a free kick. Zweli ‘Pro’ Mndlovu scored the second from the resultant set piece.

Missed

Both side missed some scoring opportunities, especially in the first half which could have seen the game go either side. Former Mbabane Swallows and Moneni Pirates’ Allen Mabuza thought he had broken the deadlock first in the 54th minute only to ruled  out for off-side. Earlier, he could have drawn first blood for his team nine minutes from the break but Wandile Mbhamali was well positioned between the poles to save it. Louis XIV who are a product of Manzini Super League could have scored in the 90th minute when Mdlovu pulled a trigger which was tipped of the bar. At the final whistle, it was Louis XIV bagging all the points and jumping from the ninth spot to the  third spot with the six points accumulated after the games.
