TRANSPORT CHALLENGE AFFECTED OUR TRAINING – TEAMS

MBABANE – Some elite league teams were affected by the unavailability of public transport, which saw the whole country grounded for two days.

This happened on Tuesday and Wednesday as the call for the release of the incarcerated Members of Parliament in Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube took another turn. Public transport operators downed their tools and it was the same situation again on Wednesday as there was no public transport, as the operators demanded the release of their colleagues, who were arrested on Tuesday. This made it difficult for teams to conduct their training sessions as players could not travel to their various training fields, yet the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) issued fixtures for Week 6 billed for tomorrow and Sunday.

Denver Sundowns Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elvis Dube revealed that they were strongly affected by the unavailability of transport for two days. “We could not train for the two days, as we started today (Thursday); it’s better for the teams that will play on Sunday because they will have two days for training,” Dube said. Rookies Madlenya gaffer William Gamedze also shared the same sentiments, saying that they could not train as a team for the two days. “We tried to train on Tuesday and Wednesday, but it was the local players who were able to attend due to transport challenges,” Gamedze said.

He said they were able to train yesterday to rectify the mistakes that they made in the game against Mbabane Highlanders, which they lost 0-1. He said they were hopeful of positive results against Tambuti in the Lubombo derby to be played tomorrow at KaLanga Technical Centre. Meanwhile, Manzini Sea Birds mentor Christian Thwala said they were also affected, as they could not travel to their training base due to the transport challenges witnessed on the two days. He, however, said there was nothing that they could do, but to honour the game against city rivals Manzini Wanderers, who failed to collect points in five attempts.
