BIG BEND – Eswatini MTN Premier League rookies Nsingizini Hotspurs Coach Gerald Phiri was a happy man as they walked off the Mayaluka Stadium pitch with the maximum points.

This was after they edged an unlucky Madlenya, who at least deserved a share of the spoils after putting up a good fight in the second half on Wednesday afternoon. Coming from slightly over 210 minutes of football and two wins in one day in the inaugural MoMo Cup 2022, just this past Sunday where they were crowned champions, they managed to snatch all three points against a dominant Madlenya in the second half to win 2-1.

Happy

“I’m happy that we got the three points but if you look at our second half, the boys were clearly feeling the effect of coming from two games in one day including extra time. I must be happy that at least I can shift the squad around and still get results. “The games are also coming in thick and fast for us as we only had two days rest before this one then another tough game against Buffaloes coming on Saturday (today) and another next Wednesday,” the club’s Malawian Head Coach Gerald Phiri said in his post-match interview. Nonetheless, he said they were going to prepare for the current leaders Young Buffaloes, who they face in Nhlangano at 3pm inside the King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium. This match will be preceded by Mbabane Highlanders against Madlenya who had lost two consecutive matches now, after a bright start.

“We’ll be playing week in and week out now so I’m happy to shift my players and also, we have not played since October 1 when we played our first league match so it’s a good result,” Phiri said. His counterpart, Ncamiso Nxumalo said the winning team did well to get the points but felt his team deserved better in the match after an improved second half performance where they outplayed the MoMo Cup champions. “We accept the loss and move on to prepare for our next match which is against Mbabane Highlanders. I was happy with my boys’ performance but some decisions didn’t go our way and we lost. Their second goal counted when the assistant had flagged for a foul,” he said. The rookies, Madlenya have six points in four matches and dropped from third to fourth after this defeat while Nsingizini took their place with six points as well in two games. Highlanders are second on seven points while Buffaloes have 10 after four matches apiece.
