JUDGMENT RESERVED IN PLE REL

MBABANE – The wait will soon be over.

That is the case involving Milling Hotspurs and Rangers FC against Premier League of Eswatini (PLE), which was yesterday back in the High Court before Judge John Magagula, who reserved his verdict. This after both learned friends presented their cases for arguments before the judge. However, the judge at the end of their submissions said he would reserve his judgement until further notice. “The judgment would be issued soon,” said the judge after listening to their submissions. The case had started around 10am, when Milling Hotspurs and Rangers representative Advocate Mduduzi ‘Tsotsi’ Mabila stood up to convince the court why PLE erred in relegating the two teams. Out of the many submissions Mabila made, one that stood out was why teams were given the second sets of rules almost a month later after the initial one were sent.

Rules

According to his submissions, Mabila contested that the first set of MTN Premier League Rules and Regulations, which said four teams would be relegated were sent on October 28, 2021, but reached the teams on November 12, 2021. Mabila felt that was offside and PLE should have sent the rules a day after EFA had copied the rules to them. He said teams only knew of the first set of rules and were not aware of the second set that denoted that four teams were to be relegated instead of two, as it was stipulated in the first set of rules. Meanwhile, Sidumo Mdladla of S.V. Mdladla and Associates, represented the PLE. Mdladla felt the case was academic. He further wondered why the teams in question registered in the National First Division (NFD). The duo of the Hotspurs and Rangers are part of the four teams that were relegated to the NFD last season alongside Malanti Chiefs and Ezulwini United (formerly Tinyosi). Last week, Rangers petitioned the PLE, saying they were not ready to take to the field of play pending the conclusion of their court case.

Rejecting

In its response this past Monday, the PLE said it was rejecting the request. “The request stated therein was one of the prayers of your application before the High Court, which the High Court did not accept,” responded the PLE. The PLE further told Rangers that their opening MTN NFD League clash against Hlatikulu Tycoons today would continue as scheduled.
