NO BIG GUNS CLASH IN MOMO CUP FINAL!

EZULWINI – They meet again in a space of three weeks.

That is Mbabane Highlanders and Moneni Pirates, who have been pitted against each other in the MoMo Cup semifinals. The two sides will lock horns at Somhlolo National Stadium and kick-off time is 11:30am. The two sides last met during the MTN Premier League (October 15, 2022) and Pirates won1-0 against the capital city giants. The pairings were announced by MTN Manager Product and Services, Mcolisi Dlamini, during a press conference held at the mobile giant company’s premises yesterday.

The fixture was voted for by the fans. The semifinals fixtures feature Rangers, Nsingizini Hotspurs, Pirates and Highlanders. The fixture which received the most votes was that of Rangers versus Hotspurs. There were 3 031 while the second highest voted for fixture was that of Pirates against Rangers which got 384 votes while Highlanders clash against Pirates garnered 110 votes.

Speaking during the event, Dlamini thanked football fans for supporting the competition. He said they saw fans voting even when the teams had been reduced to four from the previous 28 teams where the most voted for teams received over 20 000 votes. “This is a new-born tournament, so to receive this massive support from fans is overwhelming. “This somehow will count when the sponsor decides if it will bring the tournament back. We appeal to supporters to vote for the last time for their man of the matches in the three games on Sunday,” said Dlamini. The first semifinal will start at 9am which features two Shiselweni teams in Hotspurs against Rangers. The second semifinal will commence at 11:30am. Before the finals, the PLE Board of Governors will play CEOs while MTN Pick team will cross swords with Seacom.

Finals

The finals will kick-off at 4:30pm. PLE Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Makhanya advised that they would not be selling tickets at the stadium. He said tickets were worth E50 for the triple-header. “For the semifinals if the teams play to a draw, they will go straight to penalties while in the finals there will be extra time,” Makhanya said. He also said they were going to make sure teams did not have matching kits.
