MBABANE – A red card and injuries are troubling giants Mbabane Highlanders ahead of Sunday’s inaugural MoMo Cup 2022 Finals.

One team out of four will walk out of the Somhlolo National Stadium a guaranteed E600 000 winner – all in one day from 9am until around 6pm.
Highlanders will face their hoodoo rivals Moneni Pirates in the second semifinal of the day at 11:30am after Nsingizini Hotspurs take on Rangers at 9am in the opening semifinal match. The winners will clash in the final at 4pm. However, Highlanders who have signed an array of players including their ‘Prodigal Son’ in striker Mfanufikile ‘Fash’ Ndzimandze, Ndumiso ‘Sikhokho’ Shongwe and National Under-23 star Siyabonga Mkhonto who joins his star brother Philani in the club, have some injury troubles with forward Josef Lekata and central defender Aristote Tamuzi. The duo remains doubtful and had not been training for the better part of the week. As if that was not enough, they will also miss midfielder Lindani ‘Rio’ Matsenjwa against Pirates due to a red card he got in the final of the tournament play-offs at Mavuso Sports Centre.

Doubtful

“We have some injuries to Lekata and Aristote who are doubtful as they have injuries while Rio is out in the semifinal match but will play in the final if we get there as we aim to do well,” the club’s Head Coach Dumisani ‘DU’ Makhanya confirmed the news in Ezulwini during a press briefing at the MTN Eswatini Headquarters’ Mahlalekhukhwini House yesterday afternoon. Makhanya said he was nonetheless happy that the team signed more players to beef up the squad as that will increase options for the technical bench and give them depth. He welcomed the return of striker ‘Fash’, saying he was a valuable player who ‘will help us’.
