MBABANE – “It’s a complicated transfer but one I’m ready to settle.”

These were words said by Mbabane Highlanders Managing Director (MD) Chief Ally Kgomongwe yesterday when he was questioned on what the latest was as far as the transfer of speedy winger Bonginkhosi ‘Manyovu’ Dlamini from Leopard to his team was concerned. This was also due to reports that the player had stopped training and had given them a five-day ultimatum. “I am getting in touch with Leopard as I look to settle this matter once and for all, but it also involves talking to ‘Manyovu’ because he has a compromise to make here. Leopard were promised by someone that we would pay E150 000 when that was not the case. So, we have been negotiating and the fee is down to E100 000 which I can pay today but what about the player’s signing-on fee?

“This means he must agree to get a salary if we pay this amount, otherwise I’m not aware about an ultimatum except that we’re dealing with a complicated matter,” Kgomongwe responded. He said he was now in direct communication with one of the top officials of the police ensemble that is currently playing in the continental inter-club games. Leopard have dropped from the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League to the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup 2022/23. They put up a splendid performance in the Champions League before bravely bowing out to Cameroon’s Coton Sport last weekend. Kgomongwe was questioned also on if he was aware that the player expected to get his 10 per cent share of the transfer fee which is equivalent to E10 000. However, he said they were still dealing with the matter with the relevant stakeholders, in the case being Leopard then the winger himself.

Adamant

‘Manyovu’ was adamant he could not wait for the transfer to be completed, but expressed surprise at the news that he had given the team an ultimatum and went on to stop training due to the transfer dragging. “I don’t know about any ultimatum and I’m not yet aware what the Highlanders MD is doing about the transfer as we haven’t yet spoken today,” he said when questioned if he was ready to forfeit his signing-on fee and if he was aware the figure was reduced from E150 000 to E100 000. What he made clear was that should Kgomongwe pay the fee to Leopard, he would also be ready to receive his 10 per cent share from the transfer fee. This means Leopard would have to pay him E10 000 and be left with E90 000. Time is also against both the player and Highlanders as the registration deadline is tomorrow. Manyovu signed a two-year contract with Highlanders with a salary offer of over E10 000 and he was controversially unveiled at a packed Somhlolo National Stadium by Highlanders last month.

Agreement

However, Highlanders had hoped to get his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) from his last team, Segrada Esperanca of Angola. That was not to be as the agreement between Leopard and Sagrada when ‘Manyovu’ joined them early this year in Angola, was that he would be returned to Leopard should anything happen within his contract term. The contract was cut short six months into the two years after a change of the technical bench. Ingwe Mabalabala’s (Leopard) PRO, Frank Hurube, said this was a matter between Kgomongwe and their chairman, but so far they had not received any briefing from the latter.
