MBABANE – “We knew that they would try to frustrate us, but the players were in good psychological state.”

This was Royal Leopard Head Coach Edwin Matsebula’s reaction after his troops were denied the chance to have a feel of the pitch at Roumde Adjia Stadium in Cameroon ahead of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League clash against Coton Sport clash this past Sunday. Leopard coach Edwin Matsebula said they did not train at the stadium on Saturday, as there were no lights. Matsebula, however, said this did not have an impact on their readiness for the match, which they ended up losing 2-1 on the night and 3-2 on aggregate, to crash out of the CAF Champions League.  “It was a game of two halves. Coton Sport dominated the first half and got the goals, while we took control of the second half and only got the lone goal out of the chances we got,” the gaffer said.

Meanwhile, Leopard captain Muzi ‘Mzoro’ Dlamini commended the team for putting up a good fight. Dlamini said they had now forgotten about the Champions’ league and focus shifted to the Confederation Cup. After Sunday’s setback, Leopard dropped to the second-tier tournament, styled CAF Confederation Cup. ‘Mzoro’ said their target was to reach the group stages again. Leopard crashed out in the CAF Confederation Cup group stages last season. They were hoping to reach the Champions League group stage for the first time. Leopard return home  tomorrow and they will shift focus to the MTN Premier League.
