MBABANE – After Mbabane Swallows Board of Governor member, Andreas Lukhele was appointed by His Majesty the king as the Industrial Court of Appeal Judge, he might be lost in the football circles.

Lukhele was among the 11 judges who were appointed by His Majesty King Mswati III. Eight of the judges have been appointed on permanent basis and three of them were appointed on acting basis. Lukhele was among the eight who were appointed on permanent basis. The appointment of the judges was announced by the Chairman of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Chief Justice (CJ) Bheki Maphalala, on Thursday.

Appointed

The newly-appointed judges, consisting of five men and three women, were sworn in on Thursday by the CJ at the High Court conference room. Lukhele, who is well-known in the football circles, was a senior attorney at Dunseith Attorneys. He was the acting judge of the Supreme Court when he was appointed to his new position on Thursday.
Reached for comment yesterday, Lukhele said; “We can only say Bayethe! I know what is expected of me.  I want to also appreciate Mbabane Swallows and the football fraternity at large as I was working with them,” said Lukhele.

When asked if he would continue to serve as Board of Governor at Swallows, he said; “They might lose me as Board of Governor at Swallows. But we will have to consult with the relevant stakeholders regarding continuing serving as BOG at Swallows.” Previously it was known that judges’ conduct did not allow them to serve as Board of Governors. Effort to get a comment from Swallows General Manager (GM) Sandile ‘Beyond’ Zwane prooved futile as he could not be reached immediately.

Congratulating

However, during the Eswatini Broadcasting Information Services (EBIS) Sports Show yesterday hosted by Nathi ‘Mdockies’ Hlophe, Zwane was quoted congratulating the judge and also wishing the President of the club Bishop Bheki Lukhele, a happy birthday. Andreas is brother to the club president and he was representing Swallows as Board of Governor. The red and white outfit are on the process of securing a director who will assist current President Bishop Bheki Lukhele. The team is playing this evening against Denver Sundowns in their second MTN Premier League billed for Mavuso Sports Centre at 8pm.
