PLE ‘BLANK’ ABOUT E2M NFD SPONSOR

MBABANE – The Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) has distanced itself from reports suggesting that it has secured a sponsor for the National First Division (NFD).

One of the country’s major companies were said to be on the verge of sponsoring the country’s football second-tier to a tune of about E2 million.
On Wednesday, this publication sent a questionnaire to Makhanya to test the veracity of the claims. “We have not yet secured a NFD sponsor,” he said two days ago. In jest, Makhanya even wondered if this publication could advise on the companies that wanted to sponsor the NFD. Yesterday, a questionnaire was sent to Makhanya again after more reports about the possible sponsorship emerged but he maintained his stance.  

Negotiations

However, he did acknowledge that they were searching for the NFD sponsorship. “I’m engaged in negotiations with several sponsors for the NFD but do not have a confirmed sponsor,” he said. Currently, the NFD is sponsored by MTN Eswatini as part of the E6.5 million package. NFD champions currently pocket E180 000.
