MBABANE – Ace golfer Nobuhle Dlamini’s strong comeback in Ireland has earned her both a respectable finish and a fat cheque.

From last Thursday until this past Sunday, the Lobamba-born golfer joined over 100 top golfers from around the globe in chase for a share from an about E7 million purse.  This was during the KPMG Women’s Irish Open, which is under the Ladies European Tour (LET) banner. The event was staged at Dromoland Castle in Ireland. After an unconvincing start when she carded a 73, Dlamini made a strong comeback in round two. She did not only make the cut, but Dlamini was ranked 19th on five-under-par after the penultimate round. Dlamini, who returned from an injury lay-off less than two months ago, went on to stamp her authority in the decider to finish 11th on 10-under-par 278. She was just four strokes shy of the top spot, pocketing slightly over E146 000 (EURO 8 400).

It was no ordinary win for Dlamini, as she was best overall in the African continent. Other contenders from Africa were the likes of Nicole Garcia, Casandra Alexander, Monique Smit, Lejan Lewthwaite and Stacey Lee Bregman (all from South Africa). Winning the tournament was Czech Republic’s Klara Spilkova. According to information sourced from the official LET, Spilkova won the Irish Open after a three-way play-off at Dromoland Castle in Clare. The Czech player birdied the par-five 18th to defeat Nicole Broch Estrup and Ursula Wikstrom, both of whom made pars. The trio finished on 14-under-par after a dramatic final day. Meanwhile, following the latest results, Dlamini has now made over E700 000 in the LET tournaments where she has played 17 competitions. Efforts to get a comment from the gifted golfer were fruitless at the time of compiling this report, as she was yet to reply to text messages sent to her.
